BSHA ‘Rising Stars’ at London International Horse Show 2023

The BSHA is thrilled to announce that ‘Showing is Coming Home’ to London at Christmas. You may have seen on social media there is some very exciting news regarding our Rising Star series for 2023! 

Following a very successful and well-received first year of this new series, aimed at amateurs, and new emerging stars of the showing scene, we are delighted to confirm that in partnership with the ASAO, London International Horse Show, the Supreme Finals of the Rising Star series in 2023, will be held at the London International Horse Show, in December at the ExCel, London. 

Direct-to-final tickets will be available for the BSHA Rising Star finals at the London International Horse Show through County and Agricultural Shows holding direct finals with semi-final places per direct qualifying class available to contest for final few places for the Supreme Final in September. 

With two esteemed judges at the Finals, for Show and Conformation, and no ride judge, all qualifiers will run with a single judge on the day of the qualifier.

Emphasis will be placed on turnout and showmanship of the exhibit and our BSHA Judges will take time to help educate and guide all competitors on their own journeys.

At County and Agricultural shows the sections available will be:

  • RISING STAR OF COB TYPE (Lightweight, Heavyweight sections)
  • RISING STAR OF MAXI COB TYPE
  • RISING STAR OF HACK TYPE (mixed class of Small & Large)
  • RISING STAR OF RIDING HORSE TYPE (Small & Large sections)
  • RIDING STAR OF HUNTER TYPE (Small/Lightweight section & Middleweight/Heavyweight section)      
  • RISING STAR RACEHORSE TO SHOW HORSE
  • RISING STAR LADIES SHOW HORSE
  • RISING STAR WORKING HUNTER
  • RISING STAR WORKING SHOW HORSE

Guidance for entering the classes: 

Rules for BSHA Rising Star Classes which must be entered into the spirit in which they are intended:

  • Available to amateur members and non-members (aged 15 and over), please see Rule 7 in 2023 BSHA Rulebook. 
  • Open to horses which have never been placed in the top 9 in any class at a HOYS Final (not including SFAS, but to include the top three placings in the SEIB R2R Final); and riders not to have competed at HOYS in the current season and two years prior to the current season (not including SFAS). 
  • Open to horses which have never been placed in the top 9 in any RIHS BSHA Open Final at Hickstead.  
  • No competitor previously deemed a showing Professional / Producer, may be permitted to enter these classes.  
  • JMB certificates will not be required to compete in these classes.
  • Judges will not ride in the Direct Finals or the Supreme Final.
