I started out at local riding clubs at the age of 14 with my horse Sheer Gold which I was lucky to keep at home, competing in equitation, dressage, working hunter and showing classes. I met my to be husband, Nigel Hollings, at a points presentation party and with his help, qualified Sheer Gold for HOYS in 1987. I then became more and more involved in the training and production of the animals at the Hollings, Blue Slate Farm, culminating with 17 HOYS and 21 RIHS winners, including the Riding Horse of the year, Hack of the year and the first pony to win the Winston Churchill at Hickstead.

Over the 30 years I was there, I worked hard to develop not only the training of horses but also the riders. I firmly believe that riders win classes, not horses. One can have the most exquisite animal but if the rider isn’t communicating effectively then they can’t give their best. I’m passionate about my teaching, anyone can gain knowledge and confidence, they just have to open their minds. I help absolutely all levels from beginner to RIHS/HOYS, all animals from novice to veteran.

I feel I’m well placed to offer advice from the perspective of a judge/ trainer/competitor and I’m looking forward to being involved in this exciting scheme with the BSHA.
