This initial selection has been chosen geographically to make our BSHA Accredited Trainers available throughout the country. As this grows more trainers will be encouraged to join our scheme.
We aim to provide the grass roots, newcomer amateur competitors with a support network to help them on their journey, with regular clinics which will be taking place to give competitors easy access to relevant training.
I started out at local riding clubs at the age of 14 with my horse Sheer Gold which I was lucky to keep at home, competing in equitation, dressage, working hunter and showing classes. I met my to be husband, Nigel Hollings, at a points presentation party and with his help, qualified Sheer Gold for HOYS in 1987. I then became more and more involved in the training and production of the animals at the Hollings, Blue Slate Farm, culminating with 17 HOYS and 21 RIHS winners, including the Riding Horse of the year, Hack of the year and the first pony to win the Winston Churchill at Hickstead.
Over the 30 years I was there, I worked hard to develop not only the training of horses but also the riders. I firmly believe that riders win classes, not horses. One can have the most exquisite animal but if the rider isn't communicating effectively then they can't give their best. I'm passionate about my teaching, anyone can gain knowledge and confidence, they just have to open their minds. I help absolutely all levels from beginner to RIHS/HOYS, all animals from novice to veteran.
I feel I'm well placed to offer advice from the perspective of a judge/ trainer/competitor and I'm looking forward to being involved in this exciting scheme with the BSHA.
Katie and Chris are both passionate about helping new people improving standards in our Association, with Katie being a BHS Accredited Trainer for the BHS and running an Accredited BHS Yard. Katie has always worked hard for the Association and nothing gives her and Chris more pleasure than helping people to get to the top of there game.
Katie has had many showing wins with a highlight being Supreme of Show with her ladies side saddle horse, Dunbeacon. Chris Hunnable started his journey in the show ring with his family being great supporters of the BSPS, later becoming involved with showJumping and eventing, representing Great Britain at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and competing at over 100 International competitions, many at 5* level.
Moggy’s passion for horses started young with a sheetland called Sooty. Her mum had a good eye for a bargain and purchased ponies for Moggy and her sister very cheaply and usually as just broken 4 year olds. Aged 10 she won the Working Hunter Pony at Peterborough on her 12.2 Welsh section B and was followed by success right through her teens.
Moggy was later listed for the junior European Championships in Eventing and has won major titles showing. She has been a respected judge for many years. Although Moggy has given up producing horses at home she actively sources horses for clients in the UK and Ireland and teaches and holds clinics on a regular basis.
Magnus Nicholson, former international 3 day event rider, competed round burghley and badminton, represented GB on numerous occasions. He show- jumped at HOYs and competed young rider dressage, played polo and held a amateur jockeys licence.
In the late 1990’s turned his attention to Showing, now regularly winning RIHS and HOYs. Magnus holds BHS instructor qualifications. He regularly trains and coaches riders in all disciplines all over the world.
